What's wrong with this picture?
Can you find the Very Bad Idea in this sentence from one of our teacher's guides?

You may want to assign students to take the temperature of a variety of things or places, such as: the classroom, a cup of cold water, a cup of hot water, an ice cube, their own body, the inside of a refrigerator, the inside of a freezer, the inside of an oven, etc.

I can't believe this got past the safety police at the publishing company (the same people who wouldn't let us show a picture of a stapler).

maybe it should tell them to crawl inside that oven and shut the door just to make sure to get as accurate a reading as possible.

also they might want to rethink the vagueness of "inside of their own body" depending on grade level. I know plenty of children well up into fifth grade that will take that sentence as a challenge to take the temp of every spot conceivable on their bodies, internally and externally.

the most challenging part of raising or working with children i think is attempting to think with the same innocent deviousness about everything. they are like tiny little lawyers.

Yes, you are right about that one as well. Don't ever give them a reason to take you literally! Very hard to do.

...the inside of a cats anus, the ocean, the inside of your peehole, a beehive, the inside of that dead guy lying on the sidewalk, etc.

this is why i can never have children.

Since the oven and body are obvious: the inside of a refrigerator or a freezer? What happened to all of those dire warnings I received as a child about not playing with these things because I may get trapped inside and suffocate...

A while ago I bought a laser thermometer: point the dot at something and instantly read its temperature. It's lots of fun. It was in the process of measuring the temperature of *everything* that Gina came up with the band name "86 degree anus."

I just have to clarify: that was the cat's anus, not a human anus! (It's their own damn fault for walking around with their tails sticking straight up.)

Wait, now I get what Frederick was talking about. LASER thermometer. I misread that. I get it now. They should have those at the vet!

Well...if this has anything to do with the things you are taking the time to get corrected it certainly does.

Oh. Yeah. Well, it's kind of important to not have kids stick their heads in ovens! :)

This was actually not an example of that, just something we found and were like, omg, who the hell wrote that and what were they thinking? Delete.
